Year 2

Autumn 2

Year 2 have had an exciting and action-packed end to the year, full of learning, creativity and discovery!

The adventure continued with time travelling back to the Victorian era. A real highlight was visiting the Ragged School Museum, where it was possible to experience what a Victorian classroom was like and discover how very different school life was compared to today. Stepping back in time felt magical and unforgettable!

In Science, volcano experiments brought lots of excitement. Predictions were made about what would happen when bicarbonate of soda, Coca-Cola and a Mentos sweet were mixed—and everyone was amazed when it exploded! This hands-on experiment was a brilliant way to practise observing, predicting and explaining. We also learned all about healthy habits and how to implement these every day.

English lessons were full of creativity, using all five senses to describe immersive learning spaces. Vocabulary grew as similes, alliteration, rhyme and contractions were explored, helping everyone to improve their writing.

In Maths, learning focused on 2D and 3D shapes, exploring their names and properties such as sides, faces and vertices. Shapes were spotted everywhere, and explaining what makes each one special was great fun.

It has been a brilliant end to the year, and so much has been learned. We can’t wait to see what 2026 has in store for us!

Autumn 1

It’s been an exciting start to Year 2! We have been working really hard and showing lots of enthusiasm in all of our learning.

In English, we have been learning how to write diary entries through the adventures of Stick Man! We have loved pretending to be Stick Man and writing about his journey. We thought carefully about how he might be feeling and used character and setting descriptions, as well as emotive language, to make our writing interesting. We are really proud of the imaginative ideas and fantastic vocabulary we have used!

In Maths, we have been learning more about place value and how to represent numbers in different ways using dienes, part whole models and number lines. We have also been practising our addition and subtraction skills and working hard to explain our reasoning and show our working clearly.

In our project lessons, we have been learning all about what life was like for Victorian children. We have compared how they lived then to how we live now and found out about the differences in transport, food, clothing and games. It has been fascinating to see how much life has changed, and we’ve enjoyed talking about which parts of Victorian life we would and wouldn’t have liked to try!
