How We Support Pupils with SEND
At Ainslie Wood Primary School, we support children across the four broad areas of need identified in the SEND Code of Practice.
Cognition and Learning
Some children experience difficulties with learning, memory, processing information, reading, writing or mathematics. We provide carefully planned teaching and targeted interventions to help children develop the knowledge and skills needed to make progress.
Communication and Interaction
Some children may experience difficulties understanding language, expressing themselves or communicating with others. This includes children with speech and language needs and autistic children. We provide structured support to develop communication, social interaction and language skills.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
Some children may need support to manage their emotions, behaviour, friendships or mental wellbeing. We provide nurturing environments and interventions that help children develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive relationships.
Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Some children have physical disabilities, medical needs or sensory processing differences that affect their learning and participation. We work to ensure that reasonable adjustments are made so that every child can access all aspects of school life.
Inclusive Teaching
Every child at Ainslie Wood Primary School benefits from Quality First Teaching, where lessons are carefully adapted to meet individual needs.
All pupils are encouraged to participate fully in school life, including:
- Enrichment activities
- Educational visits
- Residential visits
- School performances
- Sports events
- After-school clubs
Where additional support is required, pupils may also receive targeted interventions alongside classroom teaching.
