Year 2

Autumn 1

It’s been an exciting start to Year 2! We have been working really hard and showing lots of enthusiasm in all of our learning.

In English, we have been learning how to write diary entries through the adventures of Stick Man! We have loved pretending to be Stick Man and writing about his journey. We thought carefully about how he might be feeling and used character and setting descriptions, as well as emotive language, to make our writing interesting. We are really proud of the imaginative ideas and fantastic vocabulary we have used!

In Maths, we have been learning more about place value and how to represent numbers in different ways using dienes, part whole models and number lines. We have also been practising our addition and subtraction skills and working hard to explain our reasoning and show our working clearly.

In our project lessons, we have been learning all about what life was like for Victorian children. We have compared how they lived then to how we live now and found out about the differences in transport, food, clothing and games. It has been fascinating to see how much life has changed, and we’ve enjoyed talking about which parts of Victorian life we would and wouldn’t have liked to try!
