Year 6

Spring update

What a fantastic and busy half term we’ve had in Year 6!

We had an amazing time celebrating World Book Day. The children absolutely loved dressing up and taking part in a range of fun reading activities. From a whole-school story inspired by the Story Box, to a reading scavenger hunt, sharing book recommendations, and even creating our own imaginative stories – there was a real buzz around reading all day! The highlight had to be the teachers’ costumes… all dressed as Minions, with Mr Ahmed starring as Gru – it definitely gave everyone a good laugh!

We also enjoyed supporting Comic Relief by wearing something silly – the children really embraced the fun while raising awareness for a great cause.

Another memorable experience this half term was our Money Ready session with Helen. The children learned all about trading and even had the chance to try it out themselves using coloured counters. Although it wasn’t real money, the excitement was very real! We explored how the value of things can change and discussed the importance of making careful decisions when trading – some future entrepreneurs in the making, perhaps!

In English, we have been exploring the short animation The Varmints. The children thoroughly enjoyed analysing the changing settings and atmosphere within the story. This inspired them to write their own imaginative story openers, focusing on engaging the reader right from the start – and we were incredibly impressed with their creativity and ideas.

As we move closer to SATs next half term, the children have been working incredibly hard. They have shown fantastic resilience, determination, and a real growth mindset when tackling challenges. We are so proud of the way they are pushing themselves and supporting one another.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support – it really does make a difference!

Autumn update

Year 6 have had an amazing Autumn 2 half term and have thoroughly enjoyed diving deeper into our World War Two topic. The children became real experts, teaching each other about different aspects of the war and exploring what life was really like for evacuees. We made gas masks, ID cards and ration books, tackled rationing problem-solving activities, wrote letters and postcards, and even decided what we would pack in our suitcases if we were being evacuated. Our evacuee day was a real highlight — children came dressed up, experienced air raid sirens, took shelter and truly immersed themselves in the realities of wartime life.

In English, we continued our WW2 learning through the beautiful book Rose Blanche, where the children produced some fantastic narratives and thoughtful poems. We have also just begun reading Friend or Foe, which the children are already very excited about and will help us continue exploring this important period in history through a different perspective.

We’ve also made time for some festive fun! The children loved making Christmas decorations and hats, enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner, and got into the spirit with Christmas jumper day. Year 6 have worked incredibly hard this half term and should be very proud of everything they have achieved. We’re now all looking forward to a well-earned rest and a Christmas holiday full of fun, before getting ready for an exciting 2026. Thank you for your continued support — we wish you a very Merry Christmas! ðŸŽ„
