At Ainslie Wood, we believe children learn best when learning connects.

Our unique coherent curriculum brings together carefully sequenced subject knowledge, memorable experiences and meaningful real-world outcomes. Children do not simply move from one disconnected lesson to the next. Instead, they build knowledge and skills within individual subjects and begin to recognise the powerful connections between them.

A history lesson might inspire an artwork. Scientific knowledge might be applied through Design & Technology. Geography may provide the context for purposeful writing. These connections are carefully planned — never made simply for the sake of having a ‘topic’ — so that each subject retains its own knowledge, skills and identity while contributing to a much richer learning journey.

As children’s expertise grows, they are given opportunities to question, investigate, create, collaborate, solve problems and make decisions. Learning builds towards an authentic outcome: perhaps an exhibition, museum, performance, publication, campaign, product or event. This gives children a genuine audience and, importantly, a real reason to produce work they are proud of.

The result is learning that is engaging, active and purposeful, but also ambitious and academically rigorous.
