Pupil Leadership

We believe children becoming leaders will have a positive impact on our school. We are eager to develop pupils’ leadership skills in order to have their voice heard, have ownership and work to continually make improvements to our school while also having a positive effect on them and their peers. There are currently four pupil leadership teams:

Each team will made up of one child from each class from Year 2-6. The children will design and lead their own projects with only minimal help from an adult.  We hope to see some real change created by these focuses as well as watching our leaders develop and use their leadership skills

Ainslie Wood School Council

About us

The school council at Ainslie Wood is made up of two representatives from each class from Years 1-6. We hold elections every year to decide who is going to be in the school council. This is a very exciting process. If a child wishes to become a candidate they must write a short speech telling their classmates why they would be suitable for the role. On election day each class member then secretly votes for one boy and one girl who they think will make the best representatives for their class. Votes are placed in a ballot box and then counted up and revealed to the children.

Meetings:

School Council meetings take place once a month. We follow an agenda and children are given an opportunity to give their views and let their voices be heard. It is also an opportunity for representatives to bring to light any issues from their classmates. After each meeting the children then feedback the minutes to their classes so that everyone is up to date.

This year the school council children were trained on how to carry out Learning and Environment Walks with members of staff. It was very insightful hearing the pupils voices on what they thought was effective within the classrooms and quads and the areas they decided to focus on for development.
